Pastor Bio:

Sunday, August 3, Union Chapel welcomed Pastor Steve Cain to serve as Pastor.   Pastor Cain’s family includes his wife Tracy, six children, and nine grandchildren.  Raised a preacher’s kid, his father served congregations in Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, and North Carolina.  The desire to serve ran strong as Pastor Steve worked with inner-city youth in Indianapolis and Newark, NJ and in 1972 felt the call to ministry where he would ultimately serve as a Full Elder in the United Methodist Church.  His ministries include eight years in Brazil with the UMC Global Ministries, sixteen years as campus minister for the Purdue Wesley Foundation in West Lafayette.  He is now a ‘retired’ senior pastor.

It is evident that Pastor Steve feels strongly about social justice.  He serves on the Prison Reform Committee of Indiana Area UMC and participates in Faith in Place, an organization that coordinates with religious leaders to address environmental sustainability issues.

Along with Pastor Steve’s wife Tracy, they have created Living Waters Peace Center which works with couples to create strong faith and skill-based relationships, with Christ as the center guiding force.

From Pastor Steve:

My Life verses include Acts17:28; Though he is not far from any one of us.  ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

My gifts include; missionary, teaching, discernment, prophecy, and innovation.  Among my skills are; book crunching, nicheing, life-long learning, and musical accompaniment.  I enjoy soccer, running and sailing.  Deep discipleship, couple-skill coaching, conflict resolution, and earth care are my passions.  I care deeply about social justice, overincarceration, Native American history, human rights, and constitutional government.

My favorite theologians include Luke’s Gospel, John Wesley, Chad Myers, and Randy Woodley.

I bring an enthusiasm for Life, a heart for adventure, and forty years of assisting people.
